No, it isn't. Chiropractic is a sanitary profession complementary to and different from medicine (according to WHO).

It is studied in specialized chiropractic universities. The chiropractic professional receives a minimum training of 5 years that guarantees the quality and safety of the service it offers.

During the chiropractic university career, you don't study surgery or pharmacy but deeper physiology, anatomy, radiology, neurology, and specific manual chiropractic techniques.

As this profession hasn't been approved yet in Spain, you must go to a "true" chiropractic.

Many people use this legacy to practice manipulations of the vertebral column without the correct studies and knowledge.

For this reason, it is essential that, if you are looking for a chiropractor, you check the web of Asociación Española de Quiropráctica, where you can find recognized professionals with studies.

Tension Headaches: A Common Challenge

Tension headaches are a frequent source of pain affecting up to 78% of the population. Originating from a variety of causes, such as stress, dehydration, neck and shoulder tension, and even poor posture, these headaches can manifest with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. The sensation of dull, persistent pain in the head, neck and/or shoulders, accompanied by pressure or stiffness in these areas, are indicative of this type of headache. Although medications may provide some relief, they do not address the underlying cause of the headache, which is often muscle tension.

Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT): A Unique and Effective Approach

Precision for Relief

Among the various branches of Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT), one that stands out is one that focuses on soft tissue release, thus addressing the root cause of tension headaches. This highly specialized approach requires advanced expertise. The SOT technique involves the application of precise pressure and specific movements to the affected areas, releasing tension and improving range of motion in a comprehensive manner.

Accurate Focus on the Causes of Tension Headaches

Targeted Muscles and Tissues

The SOT technique is distinguished by its ability to target the muscles, tendons and ligaments involved in the development of tension headaches. These include the muscles of the neck, shoulders, upper back, as well as the muscles of the jaw and scalp (cranial sutures). By releasing tension in these specific areas, the SOT technique contributes significantly to reducing the severity and frequency of tension headaches.

Improving Posture to Reduce Tension

Beyond Immediate Relief

In addition to releasing tension, the SOT technique has a positive impact on overall posture. Poor posture can create tension in the neck and shoulders, thus triggering tension headaches. By addressing posture and correcting any postural imbalance, the SOT technique contributes to the reduction of tension in the head, neck and shoulders, decreasing the frequency of tension headaches in a lasting way.

Schedule your appointment today and start feeling better! The Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) is a chiropractic modality developed by Dr. Major B. DeJarnette in the 1920s. Its primary focus is to restore the relationship between the sacrum and occiput, but its applications have expanded to benefit patients with limb disorders, temporomandibular joint, headaches and organ-related symptoms.

Dr. DeJarnette categorized the disorders into three main patterns:

  1. Twisting of the pelvis, affecting the main respiratory mechanism between the sacrum and occiput.
  2. Excessive movement of the sacroiliac joint, causing dysfunction in the relationship between the pelvis and coccyx.
  3. Inability of the sacroiliac joint to support the weight of the body, affecting the lumbosacral discs and leading to pain in areas such as knees, hips and lower back.

The SOT Technique addresses these patterns through specific adjustments and techniques that restore balance and relieve pain.

The SOT Chiropractic Procedure for Low Back Pain

Low back pain, or lumbago, is common and can interfere with daily life. SOT chiropractors use a unique approach to treat low back pain:

  1. They evaluate the relationship between the lumbar and cervical spine.
  2. They detect pelvic deviations and evaluate the tension of the psoas muscle.
  3. They correct imbalances with strategically placed blocks under the pelvis.
  4. They adjust the lumbar spine as needed, positively influencing the cervical spine.

SOT treatment seeks to restore structural balance and reduce stress, allowing patients to enjoy a more active and pain-free life.
